How to Request an Appointment

Before booking an appointment, you may wish to have a look at our self-referrals page. This could save you from having to make an appointment.

You can make an appointment in the following ways:

Same-Day Emergency Access Clinic

Blakeney Surgery offers a Same-Day Emergency Access Clinic, run by our nurse practitioners. We can offer same day appointments for those patients who have a genuine need to see a clinician on that day.

For a same-day emergency slot you must telephone the surgery before 11:00, leaving details of what the issue is, and a contact number. These slots are reserved for those whose condition is urgent and cannot wait until the next day. Our nurse practitioners are highly trained and can assess, treat and arrange a prescription and have access to the doctor on duty.

For emergency eye disorders, in particular foreign bodies in the eye, please telephone Lydney Hospital on 0300 4218722, or the Dilke Memorial Hospital on 0300 421 8640 as they have a SLIT machine specially developed for optical complications.

If the appointment is for your child it should take priority over school times, otherwise please consider the School Nurse.

Improved Access Appointments

Weekday evening and weekend appointments are now available at selected surgeries in our locality. These appointments are bookable via reception. Please visit www.forestgpsurgeries.co.uk for further details on the Improved Access Project.

Telephone Consultations

You can request to speak to a member of our clinical team by telephoning the surgery before 12:00. Please ensure that you give the correct telephone number for where you will be between 12:00 and 13:30 as the clinician will attempt to ring you back between these times. We offer telephone consultations with both doctors and practice nurses. You will be asked to explain what you want to speak to a clinician about, so our receptionist can book you a telephone appointment with the appropriate clinician.

Out of Hours Service

Between 18:30 and 08:00, Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays your call will be redirected to the NHS 111 service.

If you are unable to attend a routine GP appointment during surgery opening hours, you can attend:

Gloucester Health Access Centre
121-131 Eastgate Street
Gloucester
Gloucestershire
GL1 1PX

They are open Monday – Sunday, 08:00 – 20:00, 365 days a year, including Bank Holidays.

They offer a sit and wait service, or you can book a same day appointment by telephoning 01452 336290.

Out of hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

Automated Check-in

We have an automated check-in screen located on the wall to the right hand side of the reception desk. The machine is very easy to use and only requires entry of gender and day and month of birth in order to register your attendance.

We thank you for using this system in consideration of our receptionists, allowing them to answer potentially urgent phone calls and continue with administrative duties, and hope that our patients enjoy reduced queuing times as a result. However, our reception staff will always be available to answer any of your queries if needed.

Our automated check-in screen was funded by the Friends of Blakeney Surgery.

Cancellations and Missed Appointments

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Whilst we are so grateful to the 90% of our patients who do attend their appointments on time; regretfully if you are late for an appointment we are not able to ensure that you will be seen.
